What our notes say

- Infection is largely confined to the lung, causing interstitial pneumonitis. (Lung Pathology — Must-Know — Notes)
- Amiodarone can cause interstitial pneumonitis and pulmonary fibrosis, so patients need baseline and follow-up chest imaging and lung function. (Respiratory Medicine Question Bank: 15 Clinical MCQs)
- CT scan of usual interstitial pneumonitis (UIP), also known (red arrows). (Harrisons Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine)
- Drugs - Main side effects:idiosyncratic interstitial pneumonitis, effects, so begin treating RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis (1))

Practice questions on Interstitial Pneumonitis
A transplant recipient develops interstitial pneumonitis. Biopsy shows enlarged cells with large basophilic intranuclear inclusions surrounded by a clear halo. Treatment is
- Ganciclovir
- TMP-SMX
- Voriconazole
- Amphotericin B
Answer: A. CMV pneumonia shows "owl-eye" intranuclear inclusions (large, basophilic, with clear halo) plus cytoplasmic inclusions in enlarged cells. It is the most common viral pneumonia in immunocompromised/transplant patients. Treatment is ganciclovir.
