Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase
Also written as GAD.
IAAs are usually the first to appear in young children, followed by glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 kDa, and later by tyrosine phosphatase insulinoma–associated 2 and zinc transporter 8 antibodies.\nThe earliest antibodies are predominantly of the IgG1 subclass.
What our notes say
- IAAs are usually the first to appear in young children, followed by glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 kDa, and later by tyrosine phosphatase insulinoma–associated 2 and zinc transporter 8 antibodies.\nThe earliest antibodies are predominantly of the IgG1 subclass. (Type 1 diabetes)
- GABA levels are increased by vigabatrin via its irreversible inhibition of GABA transaminases.\nValproate inhibits GABA transaminases, acts on GABAB presynaptic receptors (also done by gabapentin), and activates glutamic acid decarboxylase (the enzyme that forms GABA). (Treatment of Seizures and Epilepsy)
- Autoantibodies against insulin and GAD65 (glutamic acid decarboxylase) are characteristic markers. (Pancreatic Disorders: A Comprehensive Review — Study Notes)
