Mycophenolate Mofetil
Also written as MMF.
Immune‑complex small vessel (IgA vasculitis, cryoglobulinaemic): Oral glucocorticoids; add mycophenolate mofetil if renal involvement is severe — Hydroxychloroquine for skin/joint disease; treat underlying infection (e.g., hepatitis C)
What our notes say
- Immune‑complex small vessel (IgA vasculitis, cryoglobulinaemic): Oral glucocorticoids; add mycophenolate mofetil if renal involvement is severe — Hydroxychloroquine for skin/joint disease; treat underlying infection (e.g., hepatitis C) (Vasculitis)
- Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) is a\nless toxic alternative to cyclophosphamide.\nMaintenance therapy: Azathioprine, methotrexate and MMF are\nused for maintenance. (Davidson's Essentials of Medicine - 2nd)
- The latter group is typically managed with anti proliferative drugs (e.g. azathioprine, mycophenolate mofetil), cal cineurin inhibitors (e.g. ciclosporin, tacrolimus), corticosteroids (e.g.\nprednisolone) or sirolimus. (Davidson's Essentials of Medicine - 2nd)
- cmn regimen is triple therapy with prednisolone; cyclosporine or tacrolimus; and azathioprine or mycophenolate mofetil(MMF). (6b RENAL REPLACEMNT THERAPY)
- Long‑term immunosuppression – corticosteroids (prednisone‑type) → steroid‑sparing agents (azathioprine, mycophenolate mofetil, cyclosporine) (Myasthenia gravis)
- Maintain remission / steroid‑sparing: Azathioprine, mycophenolate mofetil, methotrexate — Renal disease, musculoskeletal disease, steroid toxicity — Mycophenolate preferred for proliferative nephritis; azathioprine for milder disease (Systemic lupus erythematosus)
